Driftwood …

This label has grown on me immensely. One day when I am rich enough, I will pay for all the over-priced records at Discogs. To pick a favourite of mine is difficult and with such a limited back catalogue it is wise choice to say I love them all to death, which is not hard to do seeing as each release has been crafted to perfection.

Perhaps one day we will see a re-press of these and I can finally get my hands on ‘em. Gems that are rather rare at the moment. For now just wishful thinking.

For anyone based locally in Brisbane, this Saturday the maestro himself, Delano Smith will be playing for 2hrs+. It will be a boat party, hosted by the superb LGM crew. If you are in or around the Brisbane area, definitely come along to this! Not to be missed. I never got around to doing up a post related to Halloween which I apologise for. Regardless, this new one by Trackman Lafonte & BonQuiQui titled “A Paradise So Real” has a bit of a halloween theme going. Lovely tune. I wonder if it’ll be out on 12” in the near future?

October 2012 Chart …

My new chart for the month just gone by over on Juno. Some real gems and a lot of records I’ve been playing a fair bit. Nothing really surprising in terms of selection as most of these artists are ones I’ve been raving on about for awhile. For those who know me will understand my selections.

It’s been more of a deep house month for me but some techno bangers and a few bordering on electro, like the Xosar release on Rush Hour Holland. Definitely had to include the new Dino Sabatini 12” EP on Prologue, seeing as I really dug the album (Shaman’s Path). Some usual suspects featured as well, like Frak, Kassem Mosse and Black Jazz Consortium.

Beautiful Swimmers 45 min Boiler Room DJ Set …

This is one of those special Boiler Room mixes for me. A mix which I obsess about by watching it repeatedly because of the dope track selections and the way it introduced me to some rather special tunes which immediately grabbed my attention to the point they are stuck in my head (not really a bad thing though).

I’m also trying to work out the IDs for a fair few tunes in this. So far with help from friends, there’s a the Kerri Chandler b2 on his Atomsphere EP, Chez Damier’s “I Never Knew Love”. Some more IDs on the video link as well. If you work out any more, feel free to post in the comments or over on the video link so others find out as well.

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Pye Corner Audio and there’s a really good reason why, because the type of music, the sound is exactly my thing. A good mix of techno and electro evidenced by the inclusion of Drexciya early on in the mix, then some dance floor oriented tracks all throughout the mix. This is one of the few mixes I took time aside from my busy study schedule to listen to.

One last thing before you get stuck into the mix which is, Pye Corner Audio have released a new album and it’s a work of art. It’s going to be in my top 10 albums of 2012 no doubts about it. Have a listen to the mix below, and if it’s your thing, get onto the album straight away. :)

Bleep43 Podcast 134 - Donato Dozzy →

I would like to share this very special set by Dozzy. It was done back in 2009 for the Bleep43 crew, and like Dozzy’s epic 4 hour Laby set (as also mentioned in the quote from bleep43), this mix stands out amongst all the other special mixes he is so used to building. I’ve heard him being referred to as a “spiritual leader” and I don’t think there is a better nickname than that. May he forever continue to spread his musical wisdom through what he does best, taking everybody on a journey.

I bow to you sir Donato Dozzy.

Donato’s built a reputation for unique, atmospheric techno sets, and it’s worth downloading his epic 4 hour set from last year’s Labyrinth festival in Japan to give you a taster of what he’ll be like when he makes his UK debut for us at Corsica on 12 June. I can’t wait personally.

You hardly notice …

… the importance of time until you are waiting for it. In my case it is the debut Silent Servant LP out on Hospital Records. It’s been over a week since I’ve ordered it from the UK and while I admit I do live half-way across the world in Australia, this is the 21st century and air travel has improved significantly.

I should be able to have my records a week later especially when they’ve been shipped the day I put in an order. Also included in this shipment (hopefully!) other than the Silent Servant LP is the 2nd CUB (Regis) EP release. Another gem from Karl O’ Conor, the guy I’d give my first unborn to, if he were to ever ask that is (I know he wouldn’t but hypothetically speaking).

In preparation for this year’s Labyrinth festival, this party at Dommune will provide festival goers and also those unfortunate to not be attending, a chance to experience some house and techno courtesy of the mnml ssgs crew in Tokyo. For those following my blog, you would be well aware of both these artists so get ready for a night of dancing wherever you are in the world. :)

Moritz Von Oswald Trio - Club

Seriously killer release on Honest Jons which has impressed me by what this label has been doing lately. This track is a rather long 12 minute piece that slowly builds in momentum whilst maintaining the deep and techy vibes. At no point does it get crazy but rather keeps chugging along at a rather consistent pace. At various points along this track you will hear subtle changes in the melody and parts where the hats die down providing room for some weird sounds to accompany the mellowness. All in all, I really enjoyed this release and it’s something I’ve noticed recently, that Mortiz Von Oswald Trio tracks have never disappointed me and this release hasn’t changed this. 4.5/5 stars!

This has to be one of my favourite remixes from Steffi’s Kill Me EP. Just wonderful, something I end up saying for most Steffi releases, even remixes of her work.
